yay

MAESTRO
how do u do

glad to hear something from u
ok like, RIGHT wen i heard the first chord, i immediately knew
o snap, maestros favorite key haha (a minor for the noobs out ther..)

the cymbals wer in my opinion a bit overwhelming
but a great addition to the piece nonetheless
thers not much of a theme here but the motif gives a great deal of power,
but i was hoping for a bit more variation on that rhythm of the i VI ii i progression

the lead up to the ending was intense
the harmonic minor scale up to the i ii V was a nice idea
but u couldve harmonized each note into a chord
u had all the instruments play the same note in unison
which for the first part of the crescendo wouldve been ok
but lik as it intensified itd b cool to have more and more chord value in each passing measure.
haha i love the sounds of those guys yelling
it almost kinda sounds lik theyre saying war
convenient

loop is for the most part fine
but iono if its my computer or not or if its the site
but it sounds like thers a split second airbubble between the end and the beginning wen it loops

all in all its a great submission for the contest
wish u luck
now i gotta make a third submission haha

MaestroRage responds:

The cymbals were overpowering you say?! It is a little hard to properly judge and measure sounds with my near headphones. You see I got ones with automatic bass boost enabled, I don't know if I can turn it off, and on top of that because I don't get a flat response from them, it further muddles what I should be hearing.

Long story short, I got headphones that were meant for entertainment, not production. Back to the shop I suppose...

And you're right... there IS that bubble at the end, though when I play it on my software there is no bubble... hmm, strange.

Yes, this piece was not meant to have a theme, only brutal, punishing motifs *please pm me if I wrote that incorrectly*, I figure, the more melodic, the more noticeable you make a theme, the more tiring it becomes to listen to again and again, especially if you're aiming to have a minute'ish loop. For this reason I figured that a theme was not necessary.

Those guys yelling, I love em too :). I was thinking of taking them out, but they further enhance the image the song was born from.

I'm glad you enjoyed it Winter, bring on your best work!

Thank you for the review, i'm glad you liked it!

hey

MaestroRage + Me = the you?
lol jk nice song its catchy (the stuff other than the xmas theme)
I hope you compose for piano too
i look forward to your future submissions
(did you end the song on the dominant? creative if you did!)

-Winter

MaestroWind responds:

Ha ha no. I like Chopin's song, but that's not why I chose the name. I like the wind, that's why. Especially morning mountain wind with blowing grass and flowers.

Did I end on a dominant 7th or a 5th? Why neither. If you listen again, I ended it on a 2nd major inversion. I'm not sure if I answered your question.

Thank you for reviewing Mr. Winter.

hey there

Bdom7 arpeggio, nice intro dud
the melody is really catchy
i like the halfstep key change too.
i was just hoping the right hand would do something a bit more crazeh or go to a high register.
w/e soundfont/vst ur using, it sounds really nice in the high section of the piano.

o and that quiet i-VI-VII-VI-i-VII was nice
it didnt quite sound like a piano even in that section.

so yeah, overall this is really nice man
keep it up

p.s. i cant stand songs that fade out, but thats just a personal thing lol

more classical muzicks please!

WINTER

Turning-Japanese responds:

Yeah, I stuck to some pretty safe progressions here, and I was trying to throw in scales with aug2's.

You don't do fade-outs? I guess I'm just corny that way. :-)

Thanks as always for the review, man.

Rhapsody*?

i think
DOOD i love this piece, its one of the few piano solo pieces by him i like.
This is just my taste but i kinda felt it didnt have the true agitato feeling it was supposed to have, some parts were slurred together that werent.
the key change to d minor was played very well, no complaints there but the loud 3 chords that lead back into the main theme shouldve been more accented and more importantly, staccato.
those 2 long scale scale runs were executed NICE
the first note of the B major key change made me smile, dolce indeed.
no complaints on that section either.
the A tempo woke me up lol
one thing actually, about the first and the second time u played the D minor section, I prefer to play the A in the middle voice very quiet so it stays with the middle voice and makes the top voice sound like it has a quarter rest, and u hear only __ D E... __ D E.... ya know?
even tho the A is supposed to be shared wit the top and middle voices.
iono thats my taste, and i heard a few recordings do it like that.
BRAVO MAN
that was intense. I tried learning it once and i got kinda far but lost interest. :/
great job man, even tho a lotta ppl here in NG wont be able to appreciate this nearly as much as it should so keep posting ur recordings man i would love to hear em.
Im currently learning la campanella
which i might upload wen i learn it fully
its pretty hard as crap
PIANISTS, UNITE! *fist in air?*

musically,
Winter

DaveTheMusicMan responds:

Ahhhh!!! NOooo!!! I spelled Rhapsody wrong! God, wtf is wrong with me!?

Now that my rant is over...

Thanks for the review! Please post la campanella when ur done!

PIANISTS, UNITE!

cool

the voices were nicely put to use i think
the drums took up a little too much of the song but i still really enjoyed it man
yeah i decided to come back to NG for a little again
just checking up on how ur doing
apparently, ur amazing now haha
so keep it up brosef
im gonna look thru ur stuff now

btw i posted 2 new songs
and 2 other new songs are on their way
none of which are intense of epic proportions lol
but worth checking out :)

nice job

MaestroRage responds:

It's good to see you return Winter! I really missed you man, I hope you'll stick around this time, and not turn into an Edgen on us ;).

I'll drop by your page right away!

I agree the drums take up a bit much, bad equalizing on my end, but I do love them so <3!

Once again, i'm glad to see you again Winter, come back to the dark side. Thanks for the review, i'm glad you liked it ^^.

OI

Thanks for the sheet music to this song
I might request a few other songs later haha
so get those scores ready.
the song was really nice brosef
i loved the right hand part that went like
16th rest, 16th, 16th, 16th,
16th rest, 16th, 16th, 16th,
16th rest, 16th, 16th, 16th,
16th rest, 16th, 16th, 16th, lol
u know wut im talking about
im not crazy
nice refrain of the theme at 2:10
my favorite part would have to be at 2:44
E minah - C majah - A minah - B majah - D# dim
etc etc etc
cool stuff my friend
greet jhob on ah pritty cul musics songh!

have a brownie

WW-ns

MusicalRocky responds:

Lol thanks dude. No prob about the sheet music, any time. Yeah you are crazy.

I lik 2:10 too, even though it's not much different from the beginning until 2 measures into the theme. lol

So you like dem long arpeggios eh? Took forever to write rofl tickets. I like that part too. I tried to do cool stuff theoretically too.

greet jhob on ah pritty cul musics songh? tanx i lyk tri an'd stuphf!

- You know me as Rockeh

nice to hear from u again

lovely etude
wut is it a study for tho?
nothing sounds too difficult to me
great progressions
at some points i think i hear 3 different voices
not sure
either that or the left hand is doing stuff in between the several low notes at the beginning of each measure.
sounds fun to play actually lol
glad u finally got garritan now (bout time... haha)
many things to learn about it
i only recently cared about tweaking and mastering
cant wait to hear taht prelude
nice job

WW-ns

SuperTonic64 responds:

Oh, I've just been studying classical music a little more deeper than modern classical music. :) It's good to go back to the roots every once in a while. :)

Yep, sometimes I have 1 melody and 2 counter-melodies, but I was trying to make the song less repetative. :P It still needs a little tweeking though...:P

Thanks for the review! ^_^

amazing (once again)

awesome dud!
this is really really nice
one of the nicest melodies in this piece
so beautiful man
at 1:03, the transition from Ebmajor to Edim to Fmajor was a tad bit scary for the mood lol but wasnt necissarily bad
if i were to edit that part, i would make the left hand go Eb, G, F to avoid chromaticism and that freaky vibe lol
from that point on was nice
loved that fast little scale business haha
great job my friend

i really look forward to ur next masterpiece

WW-ns

Turning-Japanese responds:

Oh, I'm glad you liked my extension! The chromaticism was just something I'm personally fond of (the bolero I wrote reflects this) - I'm sure most music majors and theorists will cringe at it, but I can't help myself. :-)

In any case, I'm glad my personal style translates into something people on newgrounds can enjoy. You can bet that I'll be writing more.

I'll be looking out for YOUR next masterpiece, WW. Thanks for the drop-in!

interesting

if that was in 5/8, it would look really annoying on a score haha. This could also pass off as 5/4 in the beginning couldnt it?
very nice job on a nicely composed piece
be proud haha

WW-ns

Turning-Japanese responds:

Coming from you man, that means a lot. And yes, this would be a sight-reading nightmare, hahaha. As I said to madboss, this would sound a lot better with a more realistic piano sound and better velocity - I'm working on getting it deleted so I can re-submit. In any case, I really respect your opinion, and I'm all the more glad you liked the piece.

Thanks!

nice

this was really nice dud
it wasnt really the battle, but the events that led up to it, i felt..
the french horn parts were really mellow
yet gave the song a feeling that something is gonna happen.

great job man keep it up

WW-ns

sorohanro responds:

well, the part with the horn is ment to build the tension before battle, you'r right about that.the battle is when the percussion starts, but is more an... coreography then a battle.i see it more like a fight betwen personalityes, so the finality of battle is way BEFORE they take the swords
