Maestro

So you decided to finish it off as a remix
Nice move ;]
0:34 was the best recollection from the POTC theme
Great job on not taking too much from the original
yet enough to generally get the same feel from it.
Only thing to complain was the snare roll like at 0:58
it sounds really untouched and rough.
It cut through really hard
it also cuts off very sharp. It's most apparent at 1:30
Cant wait to hear a full length electronic song from you in the future!
great start maestro

MaestroRage responds:

heh, trying to stand beside Hans Zimmer in terms of classical orchestration would be murder :(. The man would kill me in his sleep while i'm on another continent, no problem.

That segment was indeed the truest part of the theme. It had to be, or the remix becomes too arbitrary to really be a remix, imo.

The snare rolls later on are indeed horrible. I can't edit the song anymore, so i'll have to resubmit when I make an extended version, which won't be for a while longer i'm afraid!

Thanks a lot Winter, coming from you thats a real compliment! Thank you for the review!

Sorry for the late response :D

Symphony

Nice piece here
I see a good attempt at creating a theme and setting up variations on it
but the way its set up as a whole was a bit confusing and unexpecting.
in your future movements, try to add a timpani part
i really liked the woodwin portion around 1:00 it really caught my attention.
Not sure, but it sounds like you ended all your instruemnts in unison C
it sounds strong but using the chord (c minor) in its full entirety would make it seem more full and forceful
Waiting for the other movements :]

bvncbvnc responds:

yep I used alot of octave intervals, I really need to work on thematic development, it is not my strong suit though Il probally take the second melodic theme and have it reappear later. Thanks for the review and tips

solemn

yet another submission from the maestro
very great piece, i could see this potentially in the CC game
I'm not too sure which part of the game you composed this specifically for but I could take a few guesses where it would fit just fine.
loops nicely as well
great job maestro
dont forget to check out my third submission!

-Winter

MaestroRage responds:

ah, hello Winter! Thank you for dropping by! This piece in particular was made as a game over theme. I don't think it would be usable anywhere else to be honest. Perhaps a sad level? Burnt town?

Your third is a well made Winter. A comical piece in a sea of anger and sorrow. I'm glad you made it. I hope the best for it and yourself in the contest!

Thank you for the review, i'm glad you liked it!

very nice

Hey Orr
Great piece here. The way you accented the beats you did here made me second guess the time signature of the piece haha. I was thinking along the lines of a measure of 12/8 followed by a single measure of 2/4.
The melody is indeed very nice and large scale. I loved the soft portion of the piece which was a nice break from the intense battle section.
The thing is, it seems a bit too serious for a comical battle game. My first thoughts of this song was like, a Metal Gear game, which would b perfect for a track like this.

Great quality, definitely one of the better submissions I've heard so far.
Good luck :]

DavidOrr responds:

Hey Winterwind

Thanks! I dunno- I think Castle Crashers is a pretty comical game and all, but they tended to use pretty serious music in their trailers, so I tried to gear the piece towards what I knew they were using.

See you on the battlefield!

great piano part

a minor haha maestros key
hey man great piece here. I'm so glad to see someone who can do the piano justice. The first 5 notes of the violin entrance really reminded me of Henryk Wieniawski's Theme Original Variation op. 15. which is a great piece i recommend u to hav a listen to it.
anyways again very great piece, although i wish icould hear a bit more variation in ur progressions other than the usual dominant/diminished 7th, tonic bit you hav here.
cant wait to hear more.

-Winter

amazing

This is fantastic dud
love every aspect of this song
parts like 1:29 are awesome haha
keep it up man i cant wait to hear more stuff from u
*adds to favorites*
:]

-Winter

yay

MAESTRO
how do u do

glad to hear something from u
ok like, RIGHT wen i heard the first chord, i immediately knew
o snap, maestros favorite key haha (a minor for the noobs out ther..)

the cymbals wer in my opinion a bit overwhelming
but a great addition to the piece nonetheless
thers not much of a theme here but the motif gives a great deal of power,
but i was hoping for a bit more variation on that rhythm of the i VI ii i progression

the lead up to the ending was intense
the harmonic minor scale up to the i ii V was a nice idea
but u couldve harmonized each note into a chord
u had all the instruments play the same note in unison
which for the first part of the crescendo wouldve been ok
but lik as it intensified itd b cool to have more and more chord value in each passing measure.
haha i love the sounds of those guys yelling
it almost kinda sounds lik theyre saying war
convenient

loop is for the most part fine
but iono if its my computer or not or if its the site
but it sounds like thers a split second airbubble between the end and the beginning wen it loops

all in all its a great submission for the contest
wish u luck
now i gotta make a third submission haha

MaestroRage responds:

The cymbals were overpowering you say?! It is a little hard to properly judge and measure sounds with my near headphones. You see I got ones with automatic bass boost enabled, I don't know if I can turn it off, and on top of that because I don't get a flat response from them, it further muddles what I should be hearing.

Long story short, I got headphones that were meant for entertainment, not production. Back to the shop I suppose...

And you're right... there IS that bubble at the end, though when I play it on my software there is no bubble... hmm, strange.

Yes, this piece was not meant to have a theme, only brutal, punishing motifs *please pm me if I wrote that incorrectly*, I figure, the more melodic, the more noticeable you make a theme, the more tiring it becomes to listen to again and again, especially if you're aiming to have a minute'ish loop. For this reason I figured that a theme was not necessary.

Those guys yelling, I love em too :). I was thinking of taking them out, but they further enhance the image the song was born from.

I'm glad you enjoyed it Winter, bring on your best work!

Thank you for the review, i'm glad you liked it!

wow

the melody is beautiful
omg no joke man u need to tell me who was the original composer of this love story piece. at first before i listened i was hoping it was the liebestraum by liszt lol
but it actually sounds lik its from the romantic era

plz respond n let me kno or pm me or something
5/5 great remix man
oh and i especially lov the ascending fourth progressions

-Winter

cool

nice job dud
catchy tunes, but it wouldve been better if they wer in the same key or something
and yea lik someone else said, transitions
would b nice.
haha the guy below me said newbrowns lol

-winter

hey

MaestroRage + Me = the you?
lol jk nice song its catchy (the stuff other than the xmas theme)
I hope you compose for piano too
i look forward to your future submissions
(did you end the song on the dominant? creative if you did!)

-Winter

MaestroWind responds:

Ha ha no. I like Chopin's song, but that's not why I chose the name. I like the wind, that's why. Especially morning mountain wind with blowing grass and flowers.

Did I end on a dominant 7th or a 5th? Why neither. If you listen again, I ended it on a 2nd major inversion. I'm not sure if I answered your question.

Thank you for reviewing Mr. Winter.
